Apple will announce a new lineup of products Tuesday morning, including new versions of the iPad, MacBook, Apple Pencil and iMacs.
Oct. 30 (UPI) — Apple has unveiled new versions of its iPad, MacBook and iMac at a New York City event.
The Apple Special Event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House, was streamed live beginning at 10 a.m. EDT.
A major highlight was the iPad Pro, which has an all-new-all-screen design to put a larger display in a smaller form, is 5.9 mm thinner than its predecessor. It includes a Liquid Retina display and ProMotion technology, A12X Bionic chip and FaceID.
The new iPadPro also introduces a new smart keyboard folio and Apple Pencil that can charge using USB-C. The new Pencil also perform more gestures through a simple tap on the pen and has improved sensitivity, accuracy and latency.
The iPadPro is available in 11-inch size starting at $700 and 12.9 inch model starting at $999.
Another highlight was a thinner and lighter MacBook called the MacBook Air, which features a 13.3-inch Retina display, Touch ID and Thunderbolt 3, USB-C charger. It’s priced starting at $1,199, up $200 from the previous version due mainly to its new Retina display.
“When Steve [Jobs] pulled that MacBook Air out of that envelope, it was clear things would never be the same,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told attendees. “The MacBook Air’s incredibly thin design not only influenced the Mac line… it changed the industry.”
Apple also released the first update to its Mac mini in four years. The updated device comes with a quad-core Intel processor and option to upgraded to a six-core version with prices starting at $799.
Ahead of Tuesday’s event, Apple’s online store was taken offline Tuesday, as expected, so it can relaunch after the event with the new products.
