FIFA 19 has finally arrived and whether you’re a FIFA veteran or new to the sports genre, we’ve created this guide to help you get up to speed with what to expect from EA’s latest release. The Journey will be making a comeback in FIFA 19 as well as FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) and new Icons have been added to the roster.
You can find our review of FIFA 19 here to see what we thought about the beautiful game.
EA has released a patch for the PC version that fixes a few bugs, such as putting Petr Cech in a suit and tie rather than have him wearing his helmet in cutscenes and fixes for shooting animations, such as seeing side-foot shots instead of regular shot (laced) outside of the box. There haven’t been any major changes to gameplay and the Pitch notes, as EA has called them, will be available on consoles soon.
Finding the right chemistry between players and their play styles is key when shaping your perfect team. This year, if you look under Attribute Details you’ll be able to see pluses and minuses next to player stats indicating the increase and decrease in the player’s ability based on chemistry. Players with strong chemistry and chemistry styles applied to their cards will have green plus numbers and a player’s finishing stat can be boosted if they have full 10 chemistry.
Micro-management is no stranger to the FIFA franchise and EA has purposefully reshaped chemistry to make it more useful and provide better bonuses.
Building your FUT team can be a bit of a slog but we’ve compiled a list of the 100 best players in FUT this year as well as the starting 11 for every Premier League team.
Messi has finally had his ranking adjusted to reflect his prowess on the pitch and the Premier League starting teams ranking reveal both their current and overall potential rating, so you can plan for how you want your team to look for both FUT and career mode.
FIFA 19 has a new Active Touch system that has the ball zipping across the pitch as you’ve never seen before. This means that launching the ball into the box is a whole lot of fun.
Game plans can be easily altered through Team Management to go on the offensive and, much like FIFA 18, you are encouraged to change your formation regularly.
Timed Finishing is another new concept in FIFA 19, where you double tap shoot within a certain window to give your shot a big power and accuracy boost. Time it right and you’ll be able to score some absolute screamers from a fair distance. Just keep in mind that the keepers are super effective in FIFA 19 and remember to time your shots right.
There have been several changes made in FIFA 19, not least the addition of new leagues and tactics.
Fans of the game rejoiced when EA announced that FIFA 19 has both the Champions League and Europa League licences. There will also be a new House Rules mode which lets you add or remove rules from basic Kick-Off matches, such as only allowing goals by headers or goals shot from a distance.
Survival mode is another new addition, where a player leaves the field every time they score and once one team is all off the pitch they win.
As well as Active Touch and Timed Finishing, Dynamic Tactics have been improved for FIFA 19 meaning that you can have more aggressive possession of the ball should that be your goal. You can also now set custom tactics and formations to switch to on-the-fly using those options which should make things more interesting.
One of the best aspects of the FIFA franchise is the availability of almost every player active in football in real life, as well as few old favourites.
FIFA 19 has a host of new Icons joining the starting 11 this year, including Gary Lineker, Northern Irish legend George Best and Ruud van Nistelrooy to name but a few. You can find the rest of the new additions on our list here.
Alex Hunter is back again for The Journey: Champions in FIFA 19, alongside playable character Danny Williams and Kim Hunter, giving players three unique stories to enjoy. No doubt there will be as many twists and turns in FIFA 19 as each player strives to win their respective leagues and maintain their great success.
See you on the pitch!
