The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are now official
Google has launched the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL in India. The phone will be available for pre-order from October 11 and will be in stores from November 1. Like the high-end Apple iPhone XS, or the Galaxy Note 9, the Pixel 3 phones from Google are expensive phones. The Google Pixel 3 price in India starts from Rs 71,000 while the Pixel 3 XL will be on sale with a price of Rs 83,000.
These prices are for the 64GB variants of the Pixel and the Pixel 3 XL. The 128GB variant of the Pixel 3 will cost Rs 83,000 while the Pixel 3 XL (128GB) will cost Rs 92,000. In addition Google has said that the Pixel 2 XL will continue to sell in the Indian market with a price of Rs 45,499. Both the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL will also be available with monthly EMI scheme where a user will have to pay Rs 3,944. “In addition, current Google Pixel and Nexus phone owners will have special loyalty offers from Flipkart and our participating offline retail partners including Reliance, Croma, and other leading stores,” said a Google spokesperson.
Since the launch of the Pixel series in 2016, Google has focussed on the camera performance of its phones in a major way. That focus continues with the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL. Although the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL come with single — most likely the same — 12-megapixel camera similar to the one in the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, once again Google is adding a number of unique features that may help the Pixel 3 XL and the Pixel 3 compete with the likes of the iPhone XS and the Note 9 that have dual cameras.
For zoom functionality, Google has added a feature called Super Res Zoom that will help the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 users zoom into a frame before they click a photo. How well this will work, and whether it will be able to compete with optical zoom offered by phones like the iPhone XS and the Note 9 is something we will only know once the new Pixel phones reach users.
In addition, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL camera app will continue to use the smart algorithms to offer features like HDR+. In addition Google is also adding Night Sight and Top Shot modes to the Pixel 3 camera.
The rear camera in the Pixel 3 uses a F1.8 lens. On the front, however, camera hardware changes. The Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL comes with two cameras: one a regular 8-megapixel camera, and a separate 8-megapixel that has a wide-angle lens for group selfies.
Google has continued with the usual dual-tone design that uses glass and metal for the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL. But in addition to Just Black and Clearly White, a new Not Pink colour has been added to the line-up.
Just like other high-end phones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL too come with the top-end hardware. The Pixel 3 has a 5.5-inch screen, without a notch. The Pixel 3 XL comes with a 6.3-inch screen. Both phones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, both come with 4GB RAM and both have up to 128GB internal storage.
Google also says that the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL are fairly “tough” phones. “Pixel 3 is IP68 water and dust resistant and has a security chip custom-designed by Google called Titan M, making it the most secure phone the company has built yet. Titan M enhances mobile security behind the scenes by protecting your unlock credentials, disk encryption, app data, and the integrity of the operating system code itself. Powered by Android 9 Pie, Pixel 3 comes with the latest Android operating system,” says the company.
