Popular Twitch streamer Trihex, best known for his speedrun streams of various Nintendo games, receives a ban from Twitch for an undetermined amount of time.
As far as Twitch streamers go, one of the more popular ones is Mychal “Trihex” Jefferson, who has made a name for himself by doing speedruns. One of the platform’s more outspoken users, Trihex has been no stranger to controversy, and is currently banned from Twitch for an undetermined amount of time.
During a recent stream, Trihex used a homophobic slur, calling one of his friends a “f*****” and therefore violating Twitch’s Terms of Service, resulting in the ban. Trihex released a statement on the matter on social media, where he attempted to explain his use of the word by saying he used to visit Internet chat rooms where “such language was normalized.” Trihex then apologized for using the slur and stated that he is going to use his time away from the streaming site to “reflect & reform.”
It’s hard to say exactly how long Trihex’s ban will be, but it will likely be 30 days, which is fairly standard when it comes to Twitch bans. Unfortunately for Trihex though, his absence from Twitch could be hugely detrimental, as we’ve seen past streamers lose thousands of followers after taking time away from streaming.
Even if Trihex loses some of his followers from this controversy, he shouldn’t have much trouble bouncing back. After all, Trihex is one of the most popular Twitch streamers for a reason, and he has had a notable streaming career so far, even being invited to the 2015 Nintendo World Championships to compete in a Splatoon tournament.
As previously stated, Trihex has been no stranger to controversy on Twitch, even though this is his first bannable offense. Trihex has been associated with some controversial streamers in the past, and the famous Trihard emote, that uses his likeness, is often used by Twitch users in a racist way.
Assuming Trihex is able to return to Twitch and his ban isn’t permanent, it will be interesting to see if he is able to stay out of trouble. Some streamers and famous gamers have become notorious for their repeat offenses, but hopefully Trihex is able to avoid that and resume his Twitch career without any more major controversies.
