White House counselor Kellyanne Conway defended President Donald Trump’s suggestion of holes in Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s story of decades-old sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh in an appearance on Fox News.
“The president is pointing out factual inconsistencies. By Ford’s own testimony, there are gaps in her memory. There are facts that she cannot remember. How she got home, how she got there, where the house was, what the date was. If those who are pretending they want to find the truth don’t fess up and say,’We can’t find the truth,’ when she doesn’t know all the facts, that is part of the testimony she put in under sworn statements,” Conway said.
Trump imitated Ford’s lack of detail in her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee during a Thursday night rally, saying, “How did you get home? I don’t remember. How’d you get there? I don’t remember. Where is the place? I don’t remember. How many years ago was it? I don’t know… What neighborhood? I don’t remember. Where’s the house? I don’t know… but I had one beer.”
A sex crimes prosecutor commissioned by the Judiciary Committee wrote a memo to Senate Republicans saying that Ford’s allegation does not have the level of evidence needed to bring a prosecution.
