First lady Melania Trump on Saturday called Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh “high qualified” to earn a seat on the high court.
While on a trip in Egypt, taking questions from reporters in front of the Sphinx, she said she was glad both sides of the thorny questions about a decades-old sexual assault — Judge Kavanaugh and chief accuser Christine Blasey Ford — were given a chance to make their case publicly.
“I’m glad Dr. Ford was heard, I’m glad Judge Kavanaugh was heard, that the FBI investigation was done, completed, and that the Senate has voted,” she said.
She declined to answer whether she believed Ms. Blasey Ford’s allegation — which remains uncorroborated by any contemporaneous evidence or witnesses.
The Senate voted Friday to overcome a Democrat-led filibuster, setting up a final confirmation vote Saturday afternoon on Judge Kavanaugh ’s elevation to the Supreme Court .
He has enough support from senators to win confirmation.
