Interpol President Meng Hongwei was reportedly detained by Chinese authorities Sunday and is now under investigation, just days after his wife reported him missing after he returned to China from a trip.
Meng, who is also the vice minister of public security in China, “is suspected of violating the law and is currently under the monitoring and investigation” by China’s National Supervisory Commission, according to Chinese media .
Meng’s wife, Grace Meng, told reporters Sunday that she hadn’t heard from her husband since Sept. 25, and claims she was sent a picture of a knife emoji from his number. A few minutes later, she said he sent her a message saying “Wait for my call,” CBS reports. (RELATED: The President Of Interpol Is Missing In China)
Meng’s wife said she did not get a call from him and is worried about his safety .
