With Halloween right around the corner, Nintendo reveals a surprising new costume that players can purchase for Mario at any of the stores inside of Super Mario Odyssey.
ALong with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey quickly became one of the most successful Nintendo Switch games released on the platform. Not only scoring high with reviewers and gamers, Mario’s latest adventure went on to become the fastest selling Mario game in the US, moving 1.1 million copies in the first 5 days alone. Even a year later, Nintendo continues to update the game and has added a new costume to the in-game store that any horror fans will certainly want to check out.
In an effort to get into the Halloween spirit, Nintendo has announced that a brand new Zombie Mario skin has been added to Super Mario Odyssey. It’s certainly a more violent look for the Nintendo icon than has even been seen before, even though the description calls it a practical effect, as he sports white eyes, torn clothing, pale green skin, and an axe cleaved into his skull. Better yet, the axe serves as this costume’s hat, meaning Mario throws it around rather than an actual and less threatening red hat. Interested players will first need to finish the main story, then visit any Crazy Cap vendor to find the outfit for 5000 gold coins and matching headwear for 3000.
In addition to a zombified Mario, Nintendo also revealed that it has added three new filters to the game’s snapshot mode as well. Manga gives the photo a black and white, graphic novel style quality one would see out of any classic manga title. Tile is exactly what it sounds like, breaking the image into tiny squares as if someone placed all of these little tile pieces down to make the image. Finally, Kaleidoscope takes the image and twists and splits the image into something that a person would see if they were to look through an actual kaleidoscope.
Unfortunately, it seems like these small downloadable outfits is likely the extent of what Nintendo will be offering going forward. Players looking for some sort of expansion or the addition of new worlds are likely going to be waiting until a potential sequel is announced at some point. The most substantial content update came last February with the addition of Luigi’s Balloon World. The free update let players attempt to hide a balloon from others or to try and locate a hidden balloon within a certain time limit.
Super Mario Odyssey is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
