President Trump said he’ll probably visit the storm zone of Hurricane Michael on Sunday or Monday, after the category 4 storm has left its expected wake of destruction and flooding in the southeastern U. S.
“They have not seen something like this in a long time,” Mr. Trump told reporters during a briefing by Federal Emergency Management Agency officials on the storm, which is making landfall in the Florida panhandle. “It’s like a big tornado, a massive tornado.”
To the residents of the storm zone, some of whom are unable to evacuate, the president said, “God bless you all.”
“Some of the areas are very poor,” the president said, making it “very difficult for people without the necessary resources to leave.” FEMA Administrator Brock Long said the window to evacuate had closed.
“We’ve got food supplies, food chains, we are working with the states,” Mr. Trump said.
The president said he probably would go forward with a scheduled campaign rally Wednesday night in Pennsylvania, while receiving updates about the storm.
“I don’t know what to do because there are so many people already there [in Pennsylvania],” he said.
