Twitter reportedly suspended a rash of pro-Saudi Arabian bots from their website on Thursday after the accounts pushed alternative narratives about the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The social media giant said they dismantled the propaganda operation which included hundreds of pro-Twitter accounts retweeting pro-Saudi talking points, according to NBC News .
“They’re posting the same stuff at the same time repeatedly — that’s a botnet,” social media specialist Ben Nimmo told the network. “They’re all posting the same content in the same order.”
The accounts also tweeted a hashtag in Arabic that roughly translated to “#We_all_trust_Mohammad_Bin_Salman,” the leader of Saudi Arabia, according to NBC.
Salman has been under intense criticism for Khashoggi’s disappearance and apparent killing inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul earlier this month.
