At Xiaomi’s 8 th Anniversary event in May this year, the company rolled out a number of exciting new products, including the flagship Mi 8 series smartphones and the Mi Band 3 fitness tracker. While the Mi Band 3 was initially available only in China, it has made its way to quite a few other markets in the last few months. In India, the fitness tracker was launched last month at INR 1,999. Since its launch, Xiaomi has consistently rolled out firmware updates for the Mi Band 3, with an aim of enhancing the overall user experience. The company has now released a new software update for the wearable, which adds the ability to show the current temperature.
The latest software update for the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 arrives as version 1.8.0.0. As mentioned above, the new update introduces a change in the way that Mi Band 3 displays weather information. Once you install the update on your Mi Band 3, you will notice that it now shows the current temperature and a forecast for the rest of the day under it. Apart from gaining the ability to display the current temperature, the update also features a new exercise mode animation. To update your Mi Band 3, you first need to update the Mi Fit app. Once you have updated your Mi Fit app, you need to head over to Settings and tap on Check for Updates. While doing so, it is important to have your smartphone near you.
This is not the first time that Xiaomi has added new features to the Mi Band 3 with software updates. Previously, Xiaomi had added features such as Night Mode, ability to mute the paired phone, and more. There is certainly a good chance that Xiaomi will continue to add new functionality to the Mi Band 3 with future software updates as well.
The Mi Band 3 is quite a significant upgrade over the Mi Band 2, which was launched in 2016. Despite that, however, the Mi Band 3 is priced at just INR 200 more than the Mi Band 2. The Mi Band 3 sports a larger 0.78-inch OLED touchscreen display that can be used to view your app messages, SMS, incoming caller ID, and all your activity data. When it comes to activity tracking, Xiaomi claims the Mi Band 3 offers a more accurate step counting algorithm to make sure that not a single step is missed.
The fitness band comes with continuous heart rate monitoring as well, capable of reading changes over a 24-hour period. Another area where the Mi Band 3 improves over its predecessor is water resistance. While the Mi Band 2 comes with an IP67 rating, the Mi Band 3 is water resistant up to 50 meters. That means you can wear the Mi Band 3 while swimming or surfing, without having to worry about liquid damage. Similar to its main rivals, the Mi Band 3 offers sleep monitoring as well as idle alert features. Fueling the Mi Band 3 is a 110mAh Li-ion polymer battery, which promises to deliver up to 20 days of battery life. While the Mi Band 2 also offers identical battery life, it does not offer as many features and sports a significantly smaller display.
