Back in May 2018, ASUS came up with a gaming smartphone, the ASUS ROG, wherein ROG denotes Republic of Gamers. The phone was launched at an event ahead of Computex 2018. And now, ASUS is gearing up to launch the ROG phone in India. It is the world’s first gaming smartphone to feature a 3D vapor-chamber cooling system for tackling the heat generated after hefty hours of gaming.
ASUS is going to launch the ROG phone in India next week on November 29,2018. The company has already sent the media invites for the launch event. The invite has a teaser image, which is captioned ROG Phone #GameChanger Coming to India. The phone is an out and out gaming smartphone and is branded in a way to appeal the gamers. Powered by a powerful Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 8GB of RAM, the ROG phone can handle all the gaming needs. Let’s check out the specifications and features of this phone.
The ASUS ROG smartphone features gaming-optimized Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU, which is specifically designed for speed, minimizing thermal throttling and maximizing battery efficiency so that users can play longer. ASUS claims that the hardware on the ROG phone delivers exceptional, fast and smooth graphics, and reaches Gigabit speeds whether on LTE or 802.11ad Wi-Fi. Notably, the company has collaborated with Garena, developer of survival shooter game Free Fire, for the ROG Phone.
The GameCool vapor-chamber cooling system on the ROG phone comes with a detachable AeroActive Cooler for extra cooling. This system has been integrated to keep the smartphone cool during intense gaming hours. The phone also includes side-mounted ports and two programmable ultrasonic AirTriggers and advanced force-feedback haptics for fulfilling the gaming pre-requisites. For the dual-screen handheld mode, the phone comes with an optional TwinView Dock. It also has a Mobile Desktop Dock for desktop-style gaming and a Gamevice controller. A WiGig Dock that uses 60GHz Wi-Fi for big-screen gaming is paired with the controller. Like we mentioned earlier, the ROG is meant for the gamers.
Concerning other key specifications, the phone comes with a 6-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display at 1080×2160 pixels resolution with 90Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and 10000:1 contrast ratio. A Snapdragon 845 SoC powers the smartphone with an optimized Adreno 630 GPU coupled with 8GB of RAM. The imaging department is handled by a 12MP+8MP dual rear camera and a 12MP selfie snapper on the front. There is 512GB of internal storage on the device.
Connectivity options on the ROG phone include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ad, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, AGPS, Glonass, USB Type-C port, NFC, and 3.5mm headphone jack. To make up for the gaming needs, a 4000mAh battery backs the device, touted to deliver up to 7 hours of Wi-Fi gameplay. The ROG phone measures 158.8×76.2×8.6mm and weighs 200 grams.
As we look at the specifications of the ASUS ROG gaming smartphone, we can’t help but compare it with alternative like Razer Phone and Xiaomi’s Blackshark. In India, with the rising popularity of games like PUBG, there are fair chances that the ROG phone could become a hit in the market. However, with its heavy specs, there is no way that the phone would be an affordable buy for the consumers. We can’t wait to see how ASUS prices this gaming marvel for the Indian smartphone market.
