A fatal early morning crash at 8 Mile and Groesbeck in Detroit at approximately 2:06 a.m. on Sunday will close the intersection in all directions until sometime on Monday, police said.
According to preliminary Detroit police report, a 31-year-old man was driving a gold vehicle eastbound on East 8 Mile, when he ran a red light and struck a red vehicle driven by a 42-year-old man that was traveling northbound on Groesbeck.
Police said the gold vehicle then rolled over and struck a light pole, causing downed wires. Emergency Medical Services took the 31-year-old driver of the gold vehicle to the hospital, where he died.
The 42-year-old man in the red vehicle was “shaken up” after the incident and refused medical treatment, police said.

Captain Robert Ahrens of the Warren Police Department said in a news release that because the accident “took down numerous power lines that will require the road closure to repair,” they will be assisting DTE and pass along any updates about the closure timeframe.
The incident happened near Warren’s border, but took place in Detroit.
