Bulkhead Interactive, the developers of the early access FPS game Battalion 1944, will be developing a new IP for Square Enix.
With both of the company’s released games, Battalion and The Turing Test, being released under the Square Enix Collective, it’s obvious that Squenix is a fan of the studio. Oh, and they recently bought 20% of the company.
“I’m really excited that we’re taking this step to deepen our partnership with the team at Bulkhead,” said Square Enix Collective head Phil Elliot to Gamesindustry.biz. “From the first meeting we had back in 2015 it was clear to me that the team had a great deal of potential, and we’re really looking forward to helping them continue to unlock that in the years to come.”
Bulkhead’s CEO Joe Brammer also said,”It’s been a great experience working with Phil and the team at Square Enix – they’ve always been supportive, looking out for the interests of us as well as the games we’ve worked on, and this opportunity to build on that relationship is a great next step for the studio as we expand and search for new talent to join our team.”
After the departure of IO Interactive, it is nice to see Square Enix making moves to increase its western game output. While we don’t know what sort of game Bulkhead will be working on next, after the success of their past projects we should be excited.
