KABUL, Afghanistan – In what became the deadliest day for U. S. forces in Afghanistan this year, three U. S. service members were killed in a bombing on Tuesday.
A roadside bomb targeted and killed three American troops, while three other U. S. soldiers suffered injuries in the attack in Ghazni city.
The battle for the strategic Ghazni city, which is known to be a notorious Taliban hotbed, has been ongoing for months now.
On Tuesday, officials said that a massive bomb was buried under the road, and exploded as an armored vehicle carrying American troops drove over the road.
Officials have not identified the U. S. troops that died in the bombing, but noted that apart from the three Americans killed, a U. S. contractor was injured in the attack.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, U. S. Military officials said, “In accordance with U. S. Department of Defense policy, the names of the service members killed in action are being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin is complete.
