While some Oscar movie hopefuls haven’t even been released yet this year, for musical artists going for Grammy gold that window of eligibility closed two months ago on Sept. 30.
We’ll have to wait and see who makes the cut when the 2019 Grammy Award nominations are announced at 8:30 a.m. EST on Friday.
But one thing we do know already is that there will be more contenders in the four top categories. Album, Record and Song of the Year — along with Best New Artist — will all be expanded from five to eight nominees for the 61st annual awards, which will air Feb. 10 on CBS.
And while there will be more slots for everyone, here are five acts who I’m pulling for to score nominations in the top fields:
