Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn left no doubt that Matthew Stafford will be his team’s quarterback in 2019 and beyond, saying at his end-of-season news conference Friday that he believes the Lions can win a Super Bowl with Stafford at the helm.
“Matthew Stafford’s our quarterback,” Quinn said. “He will be our quarterback here. Listen, this guy’s a really talented player and myself, the coaches need to put him in better situations to allow him to use his skill set.”

Stafford had one of the worst seasons of his career statistically, throwing for fewer than 4,000 yards for the first time since 2010.
The Lions went just 6-10 and finished in last place in the NFC North, and their struggles have led some to speculate that Stafford, who has four years left on the five-year, $135 million contract he signed last summer, could be on the trade block this offseason.
But Quinn said Friday he is not open to trading Stafford, who turns 31 next month.
“It’s not just Matthew Stafford,” Quinn said.
