Bungie decides it’s time to become fully-independent and Destiny fans will be pleased to hear that includes Activision transferring Destiny publishing rights back to Bungie. Going forward, Bungie is committed to self-publishing new content.
When the games developer who created Halo wants to sign a publishing deal for a new IP, you don’t say no. That’s exactly what happened back in 2010 when Bungie and Activision went into partnership. What followed (four years later) was Destiny and more recently Destiny 2 being developed by Bungie and published by Activision. However, publisher and developer are now parting ways.
The announcement was made on Bungie’s website yesterday, and the split seems quite amicable.
