Chargers’ path to Super Bowl likely to require three road playoff victories

The Chargers are likely to face the daunting task of winning three road playoff games if they want to make it to the Super Bowl.
COSTA MESA — From Anthony Lynn’s point of view, the Chargers are perfect on the road this season.
“8-0,” Lynn said.
The Chargers coach is incorrect – the team’s road record is 7-1, but he’s also not wrong behind context.
When the Chargers have gotten on a plane for a game this season, they haven’t lost. The team’s lone road loss was 12 miles away from their home stadium in Carson. The Chargers fell to the Rams 35-23 at the Coliseum On Sept. 23.
One of the Chargers’ home wins didn’t happen at StubHub Center, the Carson venue now called Dignity Health Sports Park. The Chargers defeated the Tennessee Titans 20-19 in Week 7 at Wembley Stadium in London, 11 hours away from Carson via plane.
So, yeah, technically, Lynn isn’t wrong.
It’s an unusual dynamic, but an impressive one for the Chargers, whose road record was tied for best in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints.
“These guys, you know, we travel,” Lynn said. “(There is) something about playing in hostile environments, they just come together. They keep it tight. They have a unique skill set of eliminating distractions and staying focused. I have to give them credit for that.”
For the Chargers to achieve their goal of making it to the Super Bowl, they’ll likely need to win three road games, starting with Sunday’s wild-card matchup against the Ravens in Baltimore.
