Biden has been dragging his feet on announcing his intent to run for President, leaving the Democratic party in limbo since at least February, when his name began appearing in polls of early primary states. Long considered to be a front-runner for the 2020 Democratic nomination, Biden seemed to be struggling with whether he truly wanted to be part of the race.
Sources initially put Biden’s announcement at the beginning of April, but the former Vice President was hit with allegations that he acted inappropriately towards a Democratic Congressional candidate in Nevada, invading her personal space during a campaign appearance, and planting a kiss on the side of her head. For nearly a week, story after story appeared accusing Biden not of sexual harassment per se, but of “old fashioned” and “outdated” behavior.
Then, Biden was slated to announce his candidacy this week with an appearance in Charlottesville, Virginia, but that was abruptly cancelled this morning, leaving a stop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the only possible location for an announcement — but that wasn’t set to take place until next Monday, and the nascent Biden campaign hasn’t pulled any permits for a physical event.
