Energizer’s P18K Android phone, billed as the world’s longest-lasting smartphone with its 18,000 mAh battery, has died an unceremonious death, after crowdfunding proved few people actually wanted it. Announced back at Mobile World Congress in February 2019, the P18K looked like a fairly regular Android handset from the front: it was only when you looked at it in profile that you realized just how ridiculous it was.
Avenir Telecom, the French company which has licensed the Energizer name for use on phones, had made it incredibly thick, all in the name of packing in a vast rechargeable battery. At 18,000 mAh, it was close to seven times the size of the battery inside the iPhone XS.
The result, so the promise went, was a phone with battery life measured in days, not hours.
