A 95-year-old World War II veteran who flew from California to Washington, DC, to be honored for his service collapsed and died during the return trip, according to the organization that coordinated the flight.
Frank Manchel, who served as a sergeant in the US Army, went on the weekend to the nation’s capital, joined by two of his sons and his nephew. On the flight back to San Diego on Sunday evening, he suddenly slumped over, the city’s Honor Flight organization said in a Facebook post.
