Indian government bans 59 Chinese apps because of diplomatic tensions

The Government of India has banned 59 mobile apps by Chinese companies. The list of banned apps includes hugely popular apps like TikTok, WeChat, UC Browser, ShareIT, etc. as well as two Xiaomi apps.
The Government of India has ordered a ban on 59 mobile apps by Chinese companies or developers. The Ministry of Information Technology of the Government of India has invoked its power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act and banned the apps that are ‘are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.’
Earlier this month, the two countries were engaged in a military confrontation over a stretch of Himalayan border that left 20 Indian soldiers dead.
