The explosions come days before a UN tribunal was due to issue a verdict in the trial over the killing of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.
Two large explosions reportedly caused by confiscated explosive materials ripped through Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Tuesday at around 6 p.m. local time, killing at least 50 people and injuring thousands of others, including the Prime Minister’s wife and daughter. “It’s like Hiroshima,” the mayor of Beirut, Jamal Itani, told the Lebanese Broadcasting Company. World leaders, including the UK’s Boris Johnson, Canada’s Justin Trudeau and France’s Emmanuel Macron, all offered Lebanon their assistance.
