The NBA’s award voters got one right on Thursday in voting Memphis Grizzlies Ja Morant the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year. Morant, the No.2 pick out of Murray State in last June’s draft, received 99 of 100 possible first-place votes. Miami Heat guard Kendrick Nunn finished second and New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson finished third. Finishing fourth was Morant’s teammate, center Brandon Clarke. Clarke received six second-place votes. Morant, on a conference call after the announcement, said he was going to use the going to use the slight as motivation. “I need to figure out who was that person who didn’t pick me first,” Morant said, per The New York Times NYT . “I want to shoot a direct message to them and thank them for motivating me even more to do more, be better and do whatever I can to help my team win basketball games. If anybody know who that is, let me know.” The voting, for the record, will be made public.
