During their yearly iPhone teardown, the repair experts at iFixit discovered that the 12 and 12 Pro share a common internal design. Their preliminary testing has found that the screens appear to be interchangeable, despite being rated for different levels of brightness, and they believe that the batteries and extra components like the taptic engine are completely identical between the two models. (Disclaimer: don’t try and swap parts between devices, Apple will brick your phone.) Last year’s models, the 11 and 11 Pro, were different in size and material and design. Although the 11 was larger than the Pro, this was not a premium feature: the additional space made the design simpler, and thus cheaper to build.
