As Joe Biden is declared the victor, some celebrate while others protest

A few hundred supporters of President Donald Trump rallied at the Iowa State Capitol on Saturday shortly after Democrat Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election. The pro-Trump crowd of about 300 people circled speakers to listen as they vowed to keep fighting. “He’s fighting, and he will fight until the end,” state Sen. Brad Zaun, R-Urbandale, said through a bullhorn. Zaun reminded the crowd he was the first legislator to endorse Trump before the 2016 Iowa caucuses. The crowd chanted “USA” and “Stop the Steal.” “I want a fair election,” said Des Moines resident Holli Davidson,44. “I want the truth. I want the cheating to stop and we’re going to stand by our president to the end.” Although Trump and other Republicans have decried election theft, evidence of election fraud is diminishingly rare and partisan and non-partisan officials observe the election counting procedures in Iowa and across the country. Rallygoers said they have felt “disappointed” by the election results.
