Background notifications and badges are now live
Microsoft has already completed the transition to the Chromium engine for its very own browser, and now the company can focus its efforts on improving the experience on all platforms where the app is now available. Needless to say, the way Edge works on Windows 10 continues to be a priority for the Redmond-based software giant, and today the company announced yet another important series of updates that concern the notifications users get from websites. More specifically, the new Chromium-powered Edge now supports background notifications for pinned sites and PWAs, which means that you can continue to receive notifications even if the application is closed. This is a feature that was available in the legacy version of the browser, and now Microsoft is bringing it to the Chromium sibling too. So beginning with Edge 85 on Windows 10 May 2020 Update and later, the browser no longer needs to be running to get notifications from the sites you subscribed to. “Taking advantage of background notifications is easy, and any site which supports web push notifications using the web standard Push API, Notifications API, and web push protocol is already supported.
