Steelers Decide To Triple Down On Mike Tomlin

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed coach Mike Tomlin to a three-year contract extension Tuesday that runs through the 2025 season despie losing of their last six games last season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have doubled down on Mike Tomlin. Tripled down, really. The Steelers announced Tuesday they have signed their longtime coach to a three-year contract extension. The deal runs through the 2024 seasons. There was plenty of criticism from fans about Tomlin when the Steelers collapsed down the stretch last year. After winning their first 11 games, the Steelers lost four of five to finish the regular season then suffered an embarrassing loss at home to the Cleveland Browns in the wild card round of the AFC playoffs. However, no franchise in professional sports has valued continuity with coaches more the Steelers over the past half-century. They have had just three head coaches in the last 52 years: Chuck Noll (1969-1991), Bill Cowher (1992-2006) and Tomlin (2007-present). Noll and Cowher are in the Hall of Fame. While Tomlin’s job might have been in jeopardy in other organizations, it is obvious team president Art Rooney II gave no thought to changing coaches.
