The new iPad Pro has three subtly different 5G varieties, making it important to get the right iPad for your country and network. Why Does Apple Do This? Smartphone and tablet manufacturers typically have different 5G devices in different countries. This mostly affects people who are trying to import devices between countries to take advantage of lower prices or other features. For instance, Samsung uses different application processors in different countries, and OnePlus only sells dual-SIM OnePlus 9 Pro phones outside the US. For these iPads, Apple is taking a popular path by having some models with millimeter-wave 5G and some without. MmWave hardware tends to add a lot of cost to a device, and it’s not used much outside the US, so by offering non-mmWave devices in other countries, Apple saves money without reducing the consumer experience. All three US carriers have some mmWave networks. Verizon’s is the most comprehensive, covering parts of more than 60 cities. AT&T and T-Mobile are focusing more on spots where large numbers of people tend to congregate tightly, such as sports stadiums, convention centers, and city entertainment districts.
