Pfizer seeks full FDA approval of COVID-19 vaccine, awaits OK for adolescents

Pfizer said Tuesday that it plans to ask federal regulators for full approval of the shot by the end of this month, while officials said an emergency use authorization for adolescents age 12-15 could come within days.
May 4 (UPI) — Drugmaker Pfizer said Tuesday it earned $3.5 billion from sales of its COVID-19 vaccine in the first three months of 2021, and plans to ask federal regulators for full approval of the shot by the end of this month — and could have an emergency approval to offer it to teens in days. The authorization for use in adolescents age 12 to 15 is expected in the coming days as states look to start vaccinating children across the country ahead of the summer and 2021-22 academic school year. The vaccine, developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, received emergency use approval for use in people age 16 years and older from the Food and Drug Administration in December.
