A Detroit police officer has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and willful neglect of duty in connection with a vehicle collision on Detroit’s west side that killed a 58-year-old attorney and media personality Cliff Woodards. « It’s a very tragic event for all involved, » Detroit Police Interim Chief James White said Thursday. « My heart and prayers go out to the Woodards family, » He added that the department would let the judicial process play out. Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged officer Teaira Funderburg,29, with the 15-year felony and one-year misdemeanor, noting that while Woodards « was respected in his profession » the facts and evidence led to the decision. “Proper investigations take time and that is what we strive for in every case, » Worthy said in prepared remarks.
