A new study confirms that distrust of both the government and big tech companies limited the effectiveness of contact tracing software.
(Photo: ArtMarie/Getty Images) A study indicated that U.S. efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 using contact tracing apps were undermined by many Americans’ lack of trust in the government and big tech companies. “Many of the country’s exposure notification apps are underutilized, misunderstood, and not well-trusted,” MIT Technology Review said in a report detailing its findings, “and yet this technology may yet come into its own as a public health tool for future disease outbreaks.” Earlier surveys reached similar conclusions.
