Alphabet, and Google before it, has a long history of exploring robots. The latest effort is in the form of a new company called Intrinsic that is entirely focused on making software tools for training industrial robotics. Intrinsic wants to “unlock the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers.” This effort won’t lead to personal home robots or other sci-fi visions, but rather focus on robotics in factories for manufacturing. We’re developing software tools designed to make industrial robots (which are used to make everything from solar panels to cars) easier to use, less costly, and more flexible, so that more people can use them to make new products, businesses and services.
