While the pandemic will impact many of the Olympics, the condom tradition shall go on. 160,000 condoms will be handed out to the more than 11,000 expected athletes in Tokyo during this year’s Olympics, even as a state of emergency has been declared. However, they will not be given out until the conclusion of the Games, as the Olympic Village — which has previously been a hotspot for sex among athletes residing in close quarters — will be under intense restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
