Tropical Storm Fred moved across the Gulf of Mexico as it prepared to make landfall in the United States, forecasters said.
Aug.13 (UPI) — Tropical Storm Fred moved across the Gulf of Mexico as it prepared to make landfall in the United States, forecasters said. In its 4 p.m. CDT advisory, the National Hurricane Center said the storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was located 190 miles west-southwest of Tampa, Fla., and 235 miles south of Panama City, Fla. It was moving north-northwest at 10 mph. The storm brought tropical storm conditions to the Dominican Republic and Haiti on Wednesday, and Cuba later in the week, but weakened to a tropical depression after passing over the island of Hispaniola.
