(Newser) – Four former Minneapolis police officers pleaded not guilty to federal charges in the death of George Floyd Tuesday—and three of them asked for their trials to be separated from that of Derek Chauvin, who is in prison for murdering the Black man. Chauvin appeared remotely from a maximum security prison for the arraignment Tuesday, CNN reports. A federal indictment says the officers violated Floyd’s civil rights, including the right to be free from unreasonable force, during the May 2020 arrest that led to his death.
