FBI Raids Russian Billionaire Oleg Deripaska’s Home In Washington, D.C.

Deripaska was on the list of seven billionaires sanctioned by the U.S. government in 2018 for profiting from Moscow’s “malign activity around the globe” and has been accused of money laundering on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday raided the home of Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska in Washington, D.C., multiple publications reported, but it was unclear why. In February 2020, the U.S. Treasury Department accused Deripaska of laundering money for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Deripaska told Forbes the accusations against him were a “mish-mash of total nonsense” and “just hearsay and unfounded gossip.” In 2018, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned Deripaska and six other Russian billionaires and their companies for profiting from Russia’s “corrupt system.
