The Department of Justice said there isn’t enough evidence to prove the police officer who shot Blake in the back willfully deprived the Black 29-year-old of his civil rights.
The U.S. Department of Justice wrapped up an investigation into the 2020 police shooting of Jacob Blake without filing charges Friday, more than a year after the shooting of the Black Wisconsin man helped to fuel tense protests. State prosecutors also declined to charge Sheskey earlier this year. Kenosha County’s district attorney concluded Blake resisted arrest and possessed a knife during the shooting, so Sheskey could plausibly argue that he acted in self-defense.
