The Grammy Awards are determined to separate art from artist. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. defended the organization from nominating Marilyn Manson and Louis C.K. despite both men being the subject of credible accusations of sexual misconduct. Mason Jr. told The Wrap that the awards are about the work, not the performer’s past. “We won’t look back at people’s history, we won’t look at their criminal record, we won’t look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, is this recording for this work eligible based on date and other criteria,” he said.
