MN officials say they’re tracking Omicron variant, which hasn’t been found in U.S.

“If an Omicron variant infection is found in Minnesota, we will share that information as soon as possible,” Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said in a statement.
Minnesota health officials reported 44 deaths and 4,511 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, as hospitalizations for the virus remained at highs not seen since late 2020. Officials in the state said Monday they are closely tracking the Omicron variant. No cases have been found in the United States or Minnesota. “Fortunately, Minnesota has built one of the nation’s strongest genomic sequencing and variant surveillance systems,” Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said in a Monday statement.
