A second woman testified that Ghislaine Maxwell had recruited her as a teenager to give sexual massages to Jeffrey Epstein. The defense questioned the witness’s motives.
For the second time in the sex-trafficking trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, a pseudonymous accuser testified about being abused by Jeffrey Epstein — and for a second time, the defense questioned the witness’s motives. The second week of Ms. Maxwell’s trial began with the testimony of a woman identified in court only as “Kate.” And like a women who testified last week as “Jane,” she told jurors that she first met Ms. Maxwell as a teenager. Kate told jurors that early on in their relationship Ms. Maxwell asked her to fill in for Mr. Epstein’s masseuse and led her to a “dimly lit” room inside her house in the Belgravia neighborhood of London. Inside was Mr. Epstein, who slipped out of a robe and stood naked facing the door, which Ms. Maxwell then closed, Kate testified. It was the first of what would become regular sexual encounters. Here are some key moments from the trial’s sixth day: The prosecution has told jurors that Ms. Maxwell befriended girls and helped make them susceptible to abuse by Mr. Epstein. On the stand Kate told jurors about meeting Ms. Maxwell and visiting her home.
