It might be an off year for the UCLA women’s basketball team, but good luck trying to tell that to UConn. The third-ranked Huskies, coached by the legendary Geno Auriemma, had to work in the second half to stave off the upset-minded Bruins 71-61 on Saturday in the Never Forget Tribute Classic in Newark, New Jersey. The game was the first women’s college basketball regular-season game to air on ABC. Junior guard Charisma Osborne recorded game highs of seven 3-pointers and 26 points to pace Cori Close’s unranked Bruins (5-3), who welcomed eight new players this season UConn (6-2), which was coming off a 57-44 to Georgia Tech on Thursday, extended its streak of 1,031 games without back-to-back losses.
