The thought process was that if the Chiefs had been forced to field a squib kick, they would have had less than 13 seconds remaining to employ their magic and would not have gotten off two plays and a successful field goal attempt. However, a squib kick could have ended up out of bounds, downed immediately or returned 30 or 40 yards.
