It often seems that sports fans are never happy under any circumstances, even when the best athletes in the world put on show that is unlike anything they have ever seen before. Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen went back and forth with their phenomenal play, and both have received plaudits for what they did on the field. But their overall brilliance was not the full story of the game. Bills head coach Sean McDermott has been vilified because he did not employ a squib kick following Allen’s fourth TD pass to Gabriel Davis with 13 seconds remaining. The thought process was that if the Chiefs had been forced to field a squib kick, they would have had less than 13 seconds remaining to employ their magic and would not have gotten off two plays and a successful field goal attempt. However, a squib kick could have ended up out of bounds, downed immediately or returned 30 or 40 yards.
