«We are not exempt from natural disasters,” Quito mayor Santiago Guarderas said.
At least 24 people were killed Monday in Quito, Ecuador after heavy rains caused a landslide in the country’s capital. The Quito Security Department said nearly 24 hours of rain caused a hillside to collapse and roll over a number of houses. A further 48 people were injured and another 12 were reported missing. Eight houses collapsed, as well as cars, rocks and tree trunks were uprooted and flowed into the area.
