The Detroit rapper made the ballot Wednesday in his first year of eligibility — which means the odds are in his favor he’ll get inducted this year.
Of the 17 artists named Wednesday as nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2022 class, just one was on the ballot in his first year of eligibility: Eminem. If history is a guide, that bodes well for the Detroit rapper as voting gets underway ahead of the inductees announcement in May. The final list will be selected by 1,000-plus artists, historians and other music professionals, with a public vote incorporated as well. Artists become eligible for the rock hall 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording. In Eminem’s case, that’s the album « Infinite, » released by Detroit’s WEB Entertainment in late 1996.
