Gas prices are rising at Iowa pumps, but remain lower than national average

Gas prices are on the rise and while Iowans can’t avoid shelling out more money to fill tanks, the state’s pumps remain cheaper than the nationwide average. On Thursday, the average for a regular gallon of gas in Iowa was $3.92 — an increase of nearly 45 cents from last week and $1.13 from last year — compared to the nation’s average of $4.318 a gallon, according to AAA. Gas in Iowa is still under the state’s record of $4.026 a gallon in July 2008, around $5.15 a gallon today adjusted for inflation. On Thursday in Des Moines, most stations are offering a gallon of regular gas for around $3.89, according to GasBuddy.com. A Conoco station at 2723 Grand Ave. and a Casey’s at 2849 E.
