The Iowa Cubs released their first roster Tuesday.
The 2022 Iowa Cubs season is here. Just a few hours before the first pitch was scheduled to be thrown in Buffalo, the team’s first roster was revealed. The roster has 33 members on it including a five-man taxi squad. There are 18 pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders and five outfielders. Here’s a complete breakdown of the first roster. Some of the organization’s most exciting players are on Iowa’s roster. Four players are ranked on MLB Pipeline’s top 30 prospects in the organization. The four: Outfielder Brennen Davis (1), pitcher Caleb Kilian (4) and relievers Ben Leeper (28) and Cayne Ueckert (29). Davis is ranked the 15th-best prospect in all of baseball. Kilian is listed as the top pitching prospect in the Cubs system and is expected to make his first Triple-A start over the weekend. PREVIOUSLY: 10 prospects who could play for the Iowa Cubs in 2022 Dermody, a left-handed pitcher, was a star at Norwalk and then for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He even won a state championship at Principal Park for Norwalk. Dermody is the first Iowa native to play for Iowa since Cascade native Colin Rea in 2019. Rea went on to have a dominating season and was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year. Dermody, who signed a minor league deal with the Cubs, has pitched in 29 big-league games with the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs.
