Kyiv has largely been spared Russian attacks in the last two weeks, but the Ukrainian capital and its suburbs are back in the line of fire.
Kyiv is not in the clear after all. Russia ramped up attacks on the capital of Ukraine on Saturday, two weeks after its forces retreated from the area toward a new plan of attack on the eastern part of its neighboring nation. Scattered strikes in Kyiv and other parts of Western Ukraine served as a stark reminder that the danger there is not over. Residents who fled the area for safer spots were urged not to return. “We’re not ruling out further strikes on the capital,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. “If you have the opportunity to stay a little bit longer in the cities where it’s safer, do it.” Klitschko said a Russian rocket killed one person and wounded several, and two people were reported killed in Kharkiv.
