The One Command Every Windows User Should Know And How To Use It

If I’ve learned two things working in IT, it is that many computer issues can be resolved with a reboot and many other Windows issues can be resolved with this simple command.

If working in IT has taught me anything, it is that many computer issues truly can be resolved with a reboot. If I’ve learned two things, though, it is that a myriad of remaining Windows issues can be resolved with a simple command. The Windows system file checker is such an effective general fix-all that I believe every Windows user should know about it.Its function is simple. The tool scans all your Windows system files for issues. If a problem is found, it replaces the corrupted file with a fresh version from a compressed archive in your Windows directory. The thing is, despite the protections Microsoft has put in place, these files seem to easily get disrupted which can cause a laundry list of issues.I have seen the system file checker resolve everything from random crashes to missing icons in the system tray. The system file checker can, and should, also be run after clearing out a malware infection to potentially help repair some of the damage done – assuming nuke and repave is not the better option for some reason. It has gotten to the point where it is one of the first measures I take when a user tells me their system is slow and often it is all I need to do. As recently as yesterday, my own computer was locking up when I would try to save or load images and I am kicking myself for wasting several hours before running the system file checker. It immediately had my computer back running snappier than it had been in months.
